Skills

Most of the skills, unlike abilities, don't have a direct effect on your chance of winning a duel, but instead give you other kinds of advantages. You need to decide which skills serve your character's development better, and increase those.

Getting skills

After reaching level 4, the skills become available to you. You will automatically get the skills learning and subspace detection.

Learning

Learning is a special skill, increasing it gives you access to new skills. At first, increasing it one level at a time gives you a new skill, but at higher levels, you will have to increase it more than one level in order to get a new skill. Every new skill that becomes available to you starts from level 0.
Learning can't be increased over level 30 without the Academy.

The table below summarizes the level of learning required in order to unlock the various skills.

6 - Secondary attack Battle damages the opponent's pet with physical attacks
7 - Leadership Animal increases the number of pets you can capture
8 - Continuum diminution Space-time decreases the interval between two attacks against the same target
9 - Heal wounds Animal lets you help your pets, or yourself after duels
10 - Elementary fusion Space-time gives you more AP, faster hunts
11 - Charisma Animal improves the morale of your pets
12 - Trade Other lets you buy higher level items
13 - Transcendal projection Space-time protects part of your SE when you're attacked
14 - Thievery Other lets you steal burnt-out ancient stones in duels
15 - Execution Battle gives you more SE in duels if you execute your opponent
16 - Toughness Battle gives you extra rounds in battles
17 - Shape reality Space-time gives you more DP
18 - Spectral manipulation Space-time increases SE from hunts

Types of skills

Skills are classified into the following categories:

Space-time control skills
These give you control over the resources in the game. So, in order to get more SE, XP, AP or DP, these are the ones to increase.
Animal related skills
This category includes skills that make it possible for you to have pets, and help you manage them.
Battle skills
These skills help you in battles.
Other skills
Skills not fitting into any of the other categories.
Adventure skills
Skills needed for adventures.

Improving skills

You can increase a skill by clicking on the add.gif symbol next to its name. The cost of increasing depends on the current level of the given skill, but also on your skill total. If $x$ is the current level of the skill you want to increase, and $y$ is your skill total, then the cost of increasing the skill by one level is $(x+1)*100+(y*10)$ SE. Oblivion, transplantation and adventure skills are not included in the skill total in this formula, as they don't affect the cost of increasing other skills.
